As is becoming a summer tradition since coming to San Diego, the fiance and I went out to Comic Con in July.  Not as many panels of interest to us this year, so most of our time was spent in the expo, exploring the sights, getting free stuff, playing games on display, havin' a good time. We got to check out Scribblenauts, the release of which we're looking forward to next week, and Behemoth's Game 3. We caught a glimpse of Leonard Nimoy, and there's this one exhibit that I always enjoy...

I assume they give artists a blank sculpture of a popular character (one year it was Darth Vader heads), and have them design it however they want. This year's guinea pig is Stitch!  It's fun seeing what they come up with, whether it be cute, silly, impressively detailed or downright creepy.

Sooo, what about the site? Well today I've added 8 skins by a new contributor, katoh! :) You'll find them under Megaman, Hetalia: Axis Powers and Volcaloid. As for myself, there are a few skins I'd like to make, but I'm still kind of busy with some little things... like moving, and a wedding. :] Some time after those, then maybe I'll get back to being productive.

No Castle Crashers wallpapers yet, but here's the AI [and a transparent PNG] file with the art I used for the skins: scs-castle-crashers.zip.  There are a few cute animal orbs in there too. :)  Files are provided as-is and may be used for whatever, but not for commercial purposes.  If you're using the art somewhere on the web, I'd love a link back.

I kind of skipped the month of September for content updates, in favor of working on my new site design.  So today I bring you two Soul Eater skins, and an original wallpaper based on the new layout art, which is in the Gallery, rather than the Wallpaper page, because I'm planning on moving the wallpapers elsewhere... eventually.  I set up the new Gallery to hold wallpaper sized versions of my work, but it doesn't seem to be quite what I wanted after all...  Anyway, I'm never quite sure what sizes to make wallpapers these days, so if you'd like a size that isn't available, email me and I'll see if I can accommodate you. :]

Started watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which I had heard good things about, but avoided because I'm not a big fan of the mech genre of anime.  It has been surprisingly good however, with quick pacing and laudable character development.  Yay!

...an update!? You gotta be kiddin' me! Well, actually there was a stealthy update a few days ago when I added a new pic to the Gallery. And I'm hoping to get another skin finished and uploaded today, but we'll see how that works out. ^^; I have laundry to fold, you know.

Comic Con 2007

Despite having lived in San Diego for the last 4 years (of college), this is the first time I've been here during the summer, which meant I had the opportunity to attend Comic Con for the first time this past weekend. Myself and a friend trekked down to the convention center on Sunday morning, braving the crowds and approximately 5,000 Uchiha Itachis. Seriously, is Naruto the only thing you people ever watch?

Anyway, if you want cool SquareEnix figures, apparently the last day of the con is not the day for you (see photo). I didn't end up buying anything, but still got several "sampler" volumes of manga and other fun freebies from various booths. Seeing Lucy Lawless on a panel was surprisingly amusing (who knew Xena was actually quite the comedian). Got to play some games, see "exclusive" (I'll bet someone's already posted a cellphone recording on Youtube) TV show and movie previews, and just generally have a good time amongst a veritable throng of geeks (if you shout, "Hey look it's Dumbledore!" at the Gandalf cosplayers, apparently they get angry... try it, it's fun!).

A good time was had by all; time and location permitting, I'd love to go back again next year.

Yes, you can. But not now.

I've been working on some fan art lately, which takes significantly longer than skins, and tends to get less regard ^^; But I still get the urge to make some every now and then, so... bear with. There will be both more skins, and more WP Themes.... eventually. I'd say "maybe this weekend," but the last Harry Potter book comes out this Saturday, so I have a feeling I will be dorkily incapacitated.

I'd also like to do some significant updating to the Gallery section - allow comments, and redo the format. But, after a full day of coding at work, delving into my own code is not typically what I want to do when I get home. Still, sooner or later I ought to get to it. There just need to be more weekends in the week.

...I'm gonna go play Wind Waker now.

Yeah, I know it's kinda slow on updates here lately. I don't really have any explanation, either. In any case, added a scrapped pic to the gallery - MirageGaogamon Burst Mode. There might be some actual, finished fan art coming sometime in the near future. And here are two in progress skins - FFXII Revenant Wings and more D. Gray-man.

New wallpaper up - Himiko in the chibi Get Backers style, but drawn by me (because there wasn't already one of Himiko, as far as I could tell). The accompanying skin is up as well.

And new gallery stuff. Added Himiko, and one of Axel that I don't really like.

Upcoming skins include more Okami, Host Club, Gankutsuou and D.Gray-man to name a few.

A few new skins up, plus a new wallpaper of Ouran High School Host Club. Tis rather simple and rather... pink. Wallpapers aren't really my forte :) Original image came from For Richer or Poorer, but I had to brush out all the text. I'm probably gonna skin the image as well (sometime after I finish the aforementioned batch of skins that are halfway done - 2 down, 4 to go). ^^;

Sidetracked

So, I got "sidetracked" on a lil' Kingdom Hearts II fan art for KHU's contest. "Illustrate your favorite scene from KH2." Well, hard to pick a favorite since I enjoyed the whole game, but I thought this one would be fun to depict: Ura-Hades Cup, round 40, fighting Cloud and Squall in final form with Ultima and Fenrir [Keyblades] ^__^

Not everything's perfect to the tiniest detail, but, meh, I had fun ^^; I'm a recreational artist. A runner-up for "favorite moment" might have been that scene where they hand Squall a disc and he's banging on the computer, and Aeris walks up and says, "Let me try," and then she puts the disc in the computer. Squall has never been the brightest crayon in the box, it seems.

Added the 800x600 size to the gallery, and the 1024x768 size to the Wallpaper section under Misc. I wouldn't really call it a wallpaper, but I need to reform my gallery set up to account for multiple sizes of the same image; until then, Misc is just a convenient place to put the larger versions. ^^;
